Jay Hunter "Nerd" (DC Metro) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: JVC KWNT800HDT 7-Inch DVD-CD-USB-SD HD Radio Navigation Receiver (Electronics) Update: April 16, 2012Another Firmware update to this unit, and I think the SD issue is fixed!! I played a 16gb SD card for 6 hours and no reboot issue!!! The fix is this: 1.2.0014.0300 as of Apr. 10, 2012 from JVC's website (amazon removes the links otherwise I would give it to you). The NAVIGATION is SUPERB!!! It got me around a 30 minute traffic jam in the DC area. I just took the next exit, and the unit recalculated the route almost instantly. This is really good, and much faster than my Android is at recalculating routes. This update also makes the traffic more accurate. Side note (I played with the kwnt500hdt, and its the same unit except it has the smaller screen and fewer buttons). The extra money is worth it for the bigger screen and being able to move through songs with a button instead of using the screen. Sound is excellent with my stock BOSE. Fairly intuitive, haven't cracked the book yet and have been able to do most things. NAV is quite good, Blue Tooth is more than acceptable. Works well with my android phone. I have 265 albums of music on a 16GB SD. Used PAC integration, no problems. Screen is clear as a bell. Will add camera later. 1 of 3 people found the following review helpful By This review is from: JVC KWNT800HDT 7-Inch DVD-CD-USB-SD HD Radio Navigation Receiver (Electronics) JVC did something really strange in their 2011-2012 line up. They eliminated the ability to view the calculated route as text. Thus, once a route is calculated you have no easy way to see if it makes any sense or even what road it will take you on. Likewise, you can not look to see what road you will be getting on 5 miles ahead. Imagine printing out directions from mapquest but you are only allowed to see them one line at a time, after you make each turn. They do offer something called "route simulation" which is like playing a video animation of the turn by turn directions one at a time in fast forward. However, you are almost forced to write it down and for a 2 hour route it can take 6+ minutes to see what it has proposed. Viewing routes as text was possible in the older KW700 series. Why JVC would eliminate this vital feature is beyond me. I contacted JVC to ask if there might be an update, they said they only provide bug fixes in their updates not feature... Read more |
